Charles Barkley's Blunt Message on Anthony Edwards After Steph Curry Injury

By David Web

After shocking Luka Doncic and the Los Angeles Lakers in the first round, Anthony Edwards and the Minnesota Timberwolves faced another tough challenge in the Western Conference semifinals.

And NBA on TNT’s Charles Barkley had a bold take on the Wolves star.

On Tuesday night, Edwards and the Timberwolves hosted Steph Curry and the Golden State Warriors in Game 1 of the NBA Playoffs series.

With just over eight minutes to play in the second quarter, the Warriors suffered a big setback as Curry, the NBA’s leader in 3-point shooting, left the game with a hamstring injury, never to return.

Curry has continued his dominance from beyond the arc this season as he has done throughout his four-championship career, making (4.4) and attempting (11.2) the most 3-pointers per game during the regular season.

Sitting right behind Curry in both 3-point makes and attempts was Edwards, hitting 4.1-of-10.3 per contest. This marked a major improvement from one season ago, hitting just 2.4-of-6.7.

Edwards made it a point to improve his 3-point shooting over the offseason as he eyes his first championship, and it has shown. But Barkley doesn’t think it was a good move for “Ant-Man” to enhance his long-distance shot.

At halftime of Game 1, shortly after Curry’s injury, Barkley called out Edwards for improving his 3-point jumper.

“The worst thing that ever happened to Anthony Edwards game was him becoming a good three point shooter,” Barkley said.

Although Edwards hit 39.5% of his threes in the regular season, his efficiency dropped significantly in round one against the Lakers, despite winning the series in five games. His attempts have dropped slightly to 9.6 per game, but he only hit 33.3%

Still, Edwards continued to shine despite the drop in 3-point shooting, averaging 27.6 points, 5.7 rebounds and 4.5 assists against LA.

Following Game 1, the Timberwolves will host the Warriors once again for Game 2 on Thursday as both teams await word of Curry’s availability.
