BASKETBALL: Reed leaving Sequoyah for historic opportunity at Dale

By David Web

One of the most successful single-season coaching runs in Sequoyah boys basketball history is coming to an end.

Fletcher Reed, a 29-year-old who guided the Eagles to a 29-3 record and the program’s first-ever state tournament win this past season, is set to become the next coach at Dale High School, pending board approval Monday. Dale is located just west of Shawnee and less than 2 miles from Grand Casino Hotel & Resort along Interstate-40.

Reed will replace Jeff Edmonson, who retired after leading the Pirates to four-consecutive Class 2A state championships and cementing Dale as one of Oklahoma’s premier basketball programs. Edmonson’s success turned Dale into one of the most coveted jobs in the state, which ultimately attracted Reed.

Reed’s departure means Sequoyah is now searching for its fourth boys basketball coach since 2022. After Larry Grigg ended his nine-year tenure following the 2021-22 season, Tim Bart took over for the next two seasons before retiring — leading to the introduction of Reed to the program.

Reed inherited a program that had reached the state tournament just once in school history (2023) and quickly elevated it further, guiding the Eagles to new heights in his lone season at the helm.
