Calls Mount for Steve Kerr's Firing After Warriors' Playoff Exit
It’s all over for the Golden State Warriors.
Despite a spirited comeback attempt in the fourth quarter of Wednesday night’s Game 5 matchup against the Minnesota Timberwolves, the Steph Curry-less Warriors still found themselves on the losing end of what turned out to be their final game of the season.
After suffering an unexpected home loss in Game 1, the Wolves won their fourth straight game of their second-round clash on Wednesday, 121-110, to close out the series, 4-1. They are now headed to the Western Conference Finals for a second consecutive season to face either the Denver Nuggets or the Oklahoma City Thunder.
The Warriors, on the other hand, are headed home empty-handed. This is the second time in three years that they have failed to progress past the second round. They missed the playoffs entirely last season.
Golden State fans are devastated right now, and more than a few of them have started playing the blame game shortly after their team’s season-ending loss.
Supporters have now turned on head coach Steve Kerr as calls mount to fire the four-time NBA champion shot-caller following their series loss to the Timberwolves.
“Kerr is the problem. Now let’s just see if Lacob has the balls to fire him,” a comment on X read.
“Steve Kerr failed to win a single game without Steph Curry. Get this clown off this team, and it’s time for this idiot FO to wake up and retool this incompetent roster around Curry and Butler. Everybody can go. JK. Moody. Podz. TJD. Loon. (expletive) it, Draymond too. All of them,” said another.
“FIRE KERR DON’T LET HIM ON THE PLANE,” demanded a supporter.
“Fire Steve Kerr,” a post read.
“Fire Steve Kerr, trade Draymond jimmy moody podz buddy and whoever for better players, say goodbye to our young star Kuminga. Blow this (expletive) up Mike Dunleavy,” pleaded another.
“fire steve kerr, trade everybody but curry,” a supporter wrote.
For what it’s worth, Kerr signed a two-year contract extension with the team worth $35 million in 2024. Unless the Warriors sign him to another extension this summer, the 2025-26 season will be his final year in Golden State.
Whether or not the front office even considers the possibility of firing Kerr in the offseason, however, remains to be seen.
