Celtics' Derrick White on playing with Kevin Durant in the Olympics
Boston Celtics point guard Derrick White has played with some of the greatest basketball stars of his generation in the NBA and particularly in the 2024 Paris Olympics as a member of the US Men’s National Team. And among those White has suited up with, few if any have impressed him as much as future Houston Rockets Hall of Famer Kevin Durant.
The University of Colorado – Boulder alum opened up about his time playing with KD in the Olympics on an episode of his “White Noise” podcast. “Olympic KD is so cold,” said White to his cohost Welsh. “Before, I told people — imagine running as fast as you can, jumping as high as you can, reaching as high as possible, and not being close to the ball. That’s every KD jumper.”
“I’ve always wanted to block his shot — never have,” added the Colorado native. “At the Olympics, (Durant) was hurt at first, rehabbing.”
“I practiced the day before the Serbia game, knocking off rust,” continued White.
“Then comes in as the sixth man, KD — unbelievable. (He) hit a fall-away at the halftime buzzer — I told him, you’re one of the coldest ever. In close games, we’d just give KD the ball up top — whatever shot he wants. He’s a hooper 24/7.”
