Eagles Should Target Steelers Tight End After Blockbuster Trade

The Philadelphia Eagles already have a star on their roster at the tight end position.

Dallas Goedert signed a restructured contract to remain with the organization this offseason. In his seven years with the team, he’s caught 349 passes for over 4,000 yards and 24 touchdowns.

However, as good as the South Dakota State product has been throughout his career, there is a big reason why his future in Philly was so clouded this offseason.

He has missed 15 games in the last three seasons because of several injuries. At 30 years old, legitimate questions surround whether Goedert can be the same dependable receiving option for the Eagles in 2025.

With limited options currently on the roster, there aren’t many other avenues for the team to trust if their star tight end gets hurt again.

Until now.

With the Pittsburgh Steelers acquiring former Miami Dolphins tight end Jonnu Smith in a blockbuster deal that included All-Pro defensive backs Jalen Ramsey (to Pittsburgh) and Minkah Fitzpatrick (to Miami), the Black and Gold have added clear competition for their standout tight end.

Pat Freiermuth is 26 and coming off a respectable 65-catch season for the Steelers. While he has never made a Pro Bowl like Smith has, seeing the organization seemingly acquire a player at Freiermuth’s position is eye-opening.

It could also mean that the Steelers are looking to find a way to move their former second-round pick Freiermuth

Freiermuth could be an excellent addition to the Eagles’ roster this season. Eventually, they need to find a player they can trust to replace Goedert after 2025.

The Penn State product may be the perfect match for that role.
