By David Web

Apr. 26—OMAHA, Neb. — The University of Jamestown baseball team could not keep a fast start going in a 3-1 loss to Bellevue University (Nebraska) in the first game of a doubleheader on Saturday, April 26, at the Bruins’ Brown Park.

The Jimmies’ Ryan Muizelaar came up in the top of the first and hit a solo homer to left to push his team in front 1-0. The homer is Muizelaar’s 14th of the season. The Bruins were able to tie the game up in the second on an RBI groundout and take the lead in the sixth on a two-run shot to go up 3-1.

The Jimmies used two pitchers in the game, Ryan Radkey and Ethan Petty. Radkey went 5.0 giving up two runs on four hits while striking out three hitters and walking four hitters. Petty came in and pitched 1.0 giving up one run on one hit while striking out one. The Bruins’ Kenji Miller pitched a complete game giving up one run on six hits while striking out six and walking one.

The Jimmies struggled to keep up in a 12-5 loss to the Bruins in the second game of the doubleheader.

The Bruins flew out of the gates mashing the ball with two home runs pushing them in front 20. The Jimmies (32-16, 11-9) got one back in the second to bring it to within one run at 2-1 before they tied it up on a Jordan Singleton single in the third and then took the lead on an Isaiah Roebuck bases-loaded hit-by-pitch to go up 3-2.

The Bruins (36-13, 19-1) responded with one in the bottom of the third to tie the game up at three and then took the lead with four runs in the fourth to take a 7-3 lead. The hosts added two more in the sixth and two in the seventh to take an 11-3 lead.

The Jimmies did their best to fight back in the eighth when Singleton hit a solo homer and then Landon Runge hit a run-scoring single to bring it closer at 11-5. However, the Bruins hit another home run to put the game out of reach at 12-5 in the bottom of the frame.

The Jimmies will now have to wait and see who they face in the first round of the North Star Athletic Association conference tournament starting on Thursday, May 1.
