After a lengthy decision-making process, legendary quarterback and four-time MVP Aaron Rodgers announced on Thursday that he is set to fly to Pittsburgh on Friday and officially sign a one-year deal with the Steelers ahead of mandatory minicamp, which begins next week.

Rodgers was released by the New York Jets earlier this offseason—a move many saw coming. At 41 years old, Rodgers made it clear he wasn’t rushing to choose his next team.

He had personal matters to handle first and emphasized that those who needed to know his intentions were already in the loop. Based on how things unfolded, the Steelers were clearly part of that inner circle.

Following the news, an interesting piece of history also surfaced—one that quickly drew attention.

According to Greg Harvey, Rodgers is now in position to become the first player in NFL history to attempt a pass both at 21 years old or younger and at 42 years old or older. For that to happen, he would need to attempt at least one pass in Week 14 or later this season, as he turns 42 on December 2.

He’ll now join a Pittsburgh quarterback room that includes Mason Rudolph, Skylar Thompson, and rookie Will Howard—an Ohio State product who has made it clear he’s eager to learn from a veteran like Rodgers amid the rumors swirling over the past month and beyond.

“Not really. I’m sure he asked once or twice — but [Aaron Rodgers’] name has been thrown around a lot,” Howard said back in May. “I don’t know what’s going to happen — who knows. That’s all over my head, but I’d love to be in a room and learn from [Rodgers].”

Aaron Rodgers is widely regarded as one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time and certainly one of the defining players of his generation. His impressive career, primarily with the Green Bay Packers, also includes two seasons with the New York Jets.

Rodgers is a Super Bowl champion and Super Bowl MVP, boasting remarkable career stats: 62,952 passing yards, 503 touchdown passes, just 116 interceptions, and a career passer rating of 102.6 over 20 NFL seasons.
