The New England Patriots are already facing a controversy with Stefon Diggs long before the star wide receiver has taken even a single snap for the franchise.
A video of Diggs on a yacht over Memorial Day weekend in possession of an unidentified and powdery “pink substance,” which some have speculated may have been/contained illegal drugs, went viral following its release.
That incident sparked questions about how one of the NFL’s most storied franchises, known for its no-nonsense approach to the game, might handle discipline regarding the four-time Pro Bowler who just inked a $63.5 million deal to join the team as second-year QB Drake Maye’s top target in the pass game.
Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel briefly addressed the issue in recent days, saying the franchise wouldn’t litigate in public and that all decisions would be in-house and shared on a need-to-know basis.
Ian Rapoport of NFL Network on Monday, June 2, reported that New England had come to a final decision on Diggs’ future with the team moving forward.

“From The Insiders on [NFL Network]: The #Patriots have no plans to release Stefon Diggs,” Rapoport wrote. “They have high hopes for him… and him showing up to OTAs was a good thing.”
Diggs is coming off of a torn ACL he suffered with the Houston Texans last season, which cost him nine regular season games as well as both of Houston’s two playoff contests.
Diggs has amassed nearly 10,500 receiving yards and 70 touchdowns over a 10-year NFL career. He will play the upcoming campaign at 32 years old.
