MC Alger head coach Rulani Mokwena is adamant the reunion with his former employers Mamelodi Sundowns in the CAF Champions League on Friday is like any other match in the competition.

The Algerian champions will host the South African heavyweights in matchday two, on the back of losing their opening Group C match to Sudanese giants Al-Hilal Omdurman last Friday.

Mokwena’s men currently sit in third and will be desperately looking to get off the mark against their mentor’s ex-team, who top the standings after beating FC Saint-Eloi Lupopo in their last outing.

Notably, the 38-year-old tactician will face Sundowns for the first time since a shock exit at the club last year in July, and he insists preparations will be no different to any other match.

“We prepare like normal. We first had to recover some players from the difficult trip in Rwanda and make analysis of our performance against Al-Hilal and then we start our preparations like normal – like any other opposition, any other game,” said Mokwena.

“We look at some of their strong points, some of their weak points and of course, try to give enough information, not too much information but enough information for the players to be able to play the match to win.

“So, nothing special, it’s a Champions League game of course, and a difficult Champions League game. We know that all games in the Champions League are difficult.

It remains to be seen who will come out on top at Stade Ali-la-Pointe Stadium, with kickoff for the highly anticipated match scheduled for 21h00.
