SEC Men's Basketball Power Rankings. Where do Kentucky, Florida stand?

Are there any national title contenders in the SEC?

There’s no sight of last season’s dominance right now, with zero teams currently ranked inside the top-10 of the USA TODAY Coaches Poll. The league already has 43 nonconference losses after combining for 23 in 2024.

The biggest disappointments have been Florida and Kentucky. The preseason favorites are a combined 11-8, but they’ll stay in the top half of these rankings, for now.

Here is our latest batch of SEC Power Rankings.

Rankings and records through Dec. 10.

1. Alabama

The Crimson Tide stays No. 1 thanks its top-10 victories, but Alabama needed a heroic effort from Labaron Philon to survive against Clemson.

Last week: 1

Record: 7-2

2. Arkansas

John Calipari has two first-round draft picks in the backcourt. That usually means Calipari has a team capable of winning the SEC.

Last week: 2

Record: 7-2

3. Vanderbilt

The Commodores are steamrolling everyone in sight. The only question is, will it hold up against better competition?

Last week: 6

Record: 9-0

4. Auburn

Tahaad Pettiford scored 30 and Auburn lost by 29 to Arizona. We’ll chalk that up to the Wildcats’ greatness.

Last week: 3

Record: 7-3

5. Tennessee

Tennessee still hasn’t won a game since making a statement by beating Houston. Rick Barnes is unaccustomed to a three-game losing skid.

Last week: 3

Record: 7-3

6. Florida

The Gators went 0-2 but rose two spots. That’s a sign of SEC struggles, but also a vote of confidence in Florida after close calls against Duke and UConn.

Last week: 8

Record: 5-4

7. Missouri

Notre Dame humbled the Tigers. Kansas exposed them, and Tigers are 0 for 2 against quality opponents.

Last week: 7

Record: 8-2

8. Kentucky

Oof. The Wildcats are lucky not to be lower. The roster is loaded, but everything looked broken against Gonzaga.

Last week: 5

Record: 6-4

9. Texas

A home loss to Virginia evaporated recent progress. Ups and downs are in the forecast for coach Sean Miller’s first season.

Last week: 9

Record: 7-3

10. Georgia

The Bulldogs benefit from the rest of the league’s futility, but they also scored 230 points in back-to-back wins over Tennessee Tech and Florida State.

Last week: 11

Record: 8-1

11. Ole Miss

Zuby Ejiofor’s block party for St. John’s dropped the Rebels to 0-4 against Power Four teams. The four losses are by a combined 20 points.

Last week: 10

Record: 5-4

12. LSU

The Tigers’ first serious test was a dud against Texas Tech. They need a bounce-back at home against SMU.

Last week: 12

Record: 8-1

13. Texas A&M

The Aggies haven’t been afraid to play the Power Four, but they’re only 2-3 against the meat of the schedule.

Last week: 13

Record: 7-3

14. Oklahoma

Nijel Pack’s play dictates the Sooners success. He was great in two wins against Marquette and Wake Forest, but Pack led the Sooners in turnovers in a loss to Arizona State.

Last week: 14

Record: 6-3

15. South Carolina

We’re still waiting on a surprise from the Gamecocks. They’ve handled business against inferior opponents and don’t have an upset win.

Last week: 15

Record: 6-3

16. Mississippi State

Beat Georgia Tech. Lose to San Francisco. The Bulldogs are a mess with potential.

Last week: 16

Record: 4-5
