GB's Nicholson & Church win Worlds shot put bronze
Great Britain’s Anna Nicholson and Lydia Church won shot put bronze on the penultimate day of the World Para Athletics Championships in New Delhi.
Nicholson, 30, the team’s co-captain, finished third in the women’s F35 category – for those with a co-ordination impairment – with a personal best throw of 9.58 metres in Saturday’s morning session.
It was the Gateshead Harriers’ first medal at the Worlds, having previously finished fourth at the 2019 championships, and followed her bronze at the 2024 Paralympics in Paris.
She finished more than two metres behind Ukrainian gold medallist Mariia Pomazan, while China’s Wang Jun claimed silver.
Team-mate Church, 25, managed a throw of 12.6m to clinch bronze in the F12 event – for visually impaired athletes.
It was the Peterborough-based athlete’s best performance on the world stage, having previously claimed silver at the 2021 European Para Championships.
Her throw was just 7cm behind China’s silver medallist Zhao Yuping, while the competition was won by Italian Assunta Legnante in 14.44m.
The nine-day championships finish on Sunday.
