Shedeur Sanders' NFL Draft Slide Draws Quick Patrick Mahomes Reply
On Day 2 of the 2025 NFL Draft, Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders remained the main story as he went undrafted for the second straight night, through the conclusion of the first three rounds.
Sanders was evaluated and projected by Athlon Sports as a likely first-round pick, but 102 picks passed on Thursday and Friday without Deion Sanders’ son hearing his name called.
“We all didn’t expect this … Under no circumstance we all know this shouldn’t have happened,” Sanders said after the first round.
On Friday night, he fired off another social media post expressing gratitude while he waited, but it was a post from NFL star Patrick Mahomes that drew attention during the third round.
Five quarterbacks were taken in the first three rounds before Sanders: Cam Ward (Tennessee Titans, No. 1 overall), Jaxson Dart, (New York Giants, No. 25 overall), Tyler Shough (New Orleans Saints, No. 40 overall), Jalen Milroe (Seahawks, No. 92 overall), and Dillon Gabriel (Cleveland Browns, No. 94 overall).
Four minutes after Gabriel was drafted by the Browns and it became clearer that Sanders would not hear his name called on Day 2, Mahomes posted a one-word message on X that summed up what everyone was thinking at that moment, whether it was about Sanders or not.

“Crazy,” said the three-time Super Bowl champion.
Within 30 minutes, Mahomes’ post generated more than 950,000 views, 30,000 likes and 4,000 reposts.
Mahomes joined a chorus of critics, fans and sports media personalities who tried to make sense of Sanders’ free fall on Friday.
This is a damn disgrace. How in the hell is @Shedeur not off the board, not drafted yet. Y’all still think this doesn’t have anything to do with teams hatin on @DeionSanders. This kid is a first rounder. In a different way, this is Kaepernick all over again…..being kept out. A…

Day 3 of the NFL Draft concludes with rounds four through seven on Saturday. The wait to see where Sanders gets drafted will continue at noon ET.
He is the best available player remaining from Athlon Sports’ Top 300 prospects at the beginning of the fourth round.
