WNBA Reacts to Brittney Griner’s Play Against Mystics on Friday originally appeared on Athlon Sports.

Brittney Griner entered a new phase of her WNBA career with the Atlanta Dream.

After years of playing with the Phoenix Mercury, chasing WNBA titles alongside one of the greatest players in league history, Diana Taurasi, Griner signed with the Dream to start off fresh.

While she looks to lead Atlanta to a WNBA title in the East, Griner has the Dream in a real position to compete for a championship.

They embarked on a matchup against the Washington Mystics on Friday, ranked as the No. 2 team in the Eastern Conference and the No. 4 team in the WNBA standings.

As the Dream looked to take down the Mystics, the WNBA highlighted one of Griner’s top plays of the game.

Griner worked her way into a left-handed bucket after finding success on the post against a smaller defender.

“Brittney Griner doing Brittney Griner things,” posted the official social media account of the WNBA. “Fancy footwork leads to a pretty bucket for the @atlantadream center! WAS-ATL | ION.”

Entering the matchup against the Washington Mystics, much of the attention surrounding the Atlanta Dream this season has shone on Allisha Gray and Rhyne Howard.

Despite the spotlight on two of the best scorers in the WNBA, Griner has clearly made a major impact on the Dream on both ends of the floor.

In her first season in Atlanta, Griner has posted 10.6 points, 5.6 rebounds and 0.6 assists per game. Griner has also averaged 1.5 blocks per game.

Despite entering the matchup as questionable, Griner was active against the Washington Mystics, recently nursing an illness.
