Blue Jays girls' soccer ties Century 1-1 at home

By David Web

Apr. 29—JAMESTOWN — The Jamestown High School girls’ soccer team was unable to break the deadlock in a 1-1 tie against Bismarck Century on Tuesday, April 29, at the Blue Jays’ Rotary Soccer Field.

The Blue Jays (5-1-1) got on the board first when Layla Becker fired a cross into the far post from just outside the box to give her team a 1-0 lead with 30:22 to go in the game. The goal is Becker’s seventh of the season. The hosts’ lead lasted until there was 20:49 to go in the game when the Patriots’ Alaina Stramer got in on goal and fired one home to tie the game up at one.

Despite the one goal, the Jays kept Patriots (4-1-1) goalie Jocelyn Haider plenty busy with 11 shots on goal. The Jays’ Anna Lunde saved three of the four shots she faced.

The Blue Jays are back in action at 6 p.m. on Thursday, March 1, when they go to Bismarck.
