LSU baseball to host NCAA Regional at Alex Box Stadium: Schedule, tickets

After spending regional weekend away from home last year, LSU baseball is back home, hosting an NCAA Tournament regional this season.

The Tigers were announced among the 16 NCAA regional hosts sites Sunday by the NCAA. Under head coach Jay Johnson, this is the second time LSU will host a regional. Where LSU landed as a national seed and the entire Field of 64 will be revealed at 11 a.m. CT Monday on ESPN2 or ESPNU.

LSU is expected to be a top-8 national seed, meaning it would also host the super regional round should it advance beyond the first weekend of the NCAA Tournament.

Regionals will be held Friday, May 30 through Monday, June 2. Super regionals will take place Friday June 6-8 or Saturday June 7-9. The College World Series at Charles Schwab Field in Omaha, Nebraska, starts June 13.

How LSU baseball has fared as a regional host

Last time the Tigers hosted a regional was in 2023 and they breezed through the Baton Rouge Regional behind the National Pitcher of the Year in Paul Skenes and Dylan Crews at the plate, two LSU legends.

LSU has advanced past regionals as a host five straight times. The last time LSU hosted NCAA regionals and lost was back in 2014 when it lost to Houston in the Baton Rouge Regional final.

This year will be the 18th time LSU has hosted a regional and its gone 15-2 over the first 17 NCAA regionals held at Alex Box Stadium.

How LSU baseball earned a national seed

For the better part of the season, LSU ranked inside the top 8 in RPI. Coming off the SEC Baseball Tournament,

Johnson’s ballclub won more than 40 games in the regular season and in arguably the best conference in college baseball, not only did the Tigers finish in the top three during the regular season but it amassed 19 conference wins.

LSU’s resume included series wins over Arkansas and Tennessee and had other big wins against Texas and Dallas Baptist.
